The dead ball king gets 100th cap as England player and joins with other greats such as; Bobby Charlton’s 106 , Bobby Moore’s 108 , the immense 125-cap record set by Peter Shilton and Billy Wright 105.

Capello, the steely Italian at the helm might be making a big mistake, some say.

The odds are 9-4 for Beckham to finish his England career on 100 caps.

Beckham is poised to finally reach his century at the Stade de France in Paris and can expect a fitting fanfare for the achievement.

The LA Galaxy midfielder knows it might be the last time he is centre stage for England because the emergence of Blackburn’s David Bentley, who shone in Capello’s first match against Switzerland, could consign him to the bench sooner rather than later.

Beckham hasn’t become a global icon without developing a keen sense of his own worth. But he is so keen to prolong his international career that even the prospect of being given a super-sub role doesn’t faze him.

Glen Hoddle backs Beckham for the match against France

David Beckham has the ability to continue to play at the highest level until he is 40 and he can make the World Cup team in 2010, but I would play him in a completely different role,” Hoddle told the Daily Express.

Has he been an asset to LA Galaxy

Does he deserve it? Is the question on most peoples lips.

Did he deserve abuse from England fans? Yet he went on to set up an academy.

I would like to see him still out there till he’s 40. Mainly because he needs to pass on that skill to our younger generation so we don’t lose the tenacity and ability that has come to be called Golden Balls.
