When the Miss Universe candidates for Israel and Lebanon posed for a beauty pageant selfie together, they probably didn’t expect the image to spark international outcry.
After Miss Israel Doran Matalon uploaded the photograph to her Instagram account, Lebanese beauty queen Saly Greige was threatened with having her title of Miss Lebanon plucked from her for ‘mingling’ with her country’s enemy.
Matalon had posted the image with the caption ‘Good morning from us! Miss Japan, Miss Slovenia, Miss Lebanon & I’ last week and since then critics in Lebanon have called for her crown to be removed.

One critic told the Daily Star newspaper Ms Greige should lose the title due to ‘mingling with the citizen of an enemy state’ while another said the beauty queen should have known better because she lists one of her hobbies as reading – and therefore should have know about the political tensions.
